The Eagles: Philadelphia’s Second Team

The Eagles: Philadelphia’s Second Team

If I were to tell you five years ago that it would be early November the Eagles were coming off of a devastating loss in a battle for first place to the Dallas Cowboys and the city of Philadelphia was more concerned with the Phillies situation and at third base than the Eagles loss, you’d call me crazy or conclude I was not from Philadelphia.

However; that is what is going on in Philadelphia.

Fans are becoming apathetic towards the Eagles, and for good reason the Eagles are re-dundant. Every season its the same themes and stories.

Andy Reid’s clock management

Donovan McNabb’s performance in the clutch

Joe Banner’s handling of the salary cap

The stories all climax with the Eagles coming close and losing. The story concludes with the same phrase “We would have won if..”

We would have won in 2001 if we had more experience.

We would have won in 2002 had McNabb’s ankle been 100 percent.

We would have won in 2003 if McNabb did not get hit with a cheap shot.

We would won in 2004 but the Patriots cheated.

We would have won if 2005  but T.O.’s ruined the locker room.

We would have won in 2006 if it wasn’t for that off-side call in New Orleans.

We would have won in 2007 if we McNabb stayed healthy

We would have won in 2008 if the Defense stopped the run in the 4th Quarter, and by the way Kevin Curtis was totally interfered with on that final play!

Finally in 2009 Philadelphia Sports fans have had enough, they no longer need the Eagles because the product located across the street is worth spending money time and passion on, not the Eagles.

For years the Eagles have snared at fans “Would you rather win one, and not contend for years, or be in it every year with a chance to win” Well Mr.Lurie and Mr.Banner the Philadelphia Phillies have proven you can win one, and actually contend every year. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008, but they did not stand pat, the team went out and acquired Raul Ibanez, Cliff Lee and Pedro Martinez in 2009 all three players contributed in the Phillies returning to the World Series. The Phillies have a core group that they continuously improve on.

What did the Eagles do the year after reaching the Super Bowl? (Other than film T.O. doing sit ups in his drive way.)

They sat on the fame and popularity the team received and did nothing; as a result the team followed its Super Bowl 39 appearence by going 6-10 and missing the playoffs.

Philadelphia fans deserve better than a coach who responds after every loss “We need to do a better job” No crap Andy YOU LOST THE GAME ofcourse you have to do a better job, you lost the game!

The Philadelphia fans deserve a coach like Charlie Manuel, a coach that  honestly answers all the reporters questions. Manuel sits and answers every question honestly after a loss Manuel speaks what is on his mind and as a result he won the fans over.

Reid’s defenders say “Wel Andy doesn’t want to throw his players under the bus.”

Funny thing is Charlie Manuel is honest with the media and he has never had an issue with a player being upset over somthing he said.

The comparisions go on and on, but the truth is this:

The Phillies not the Eagles are the GOLD STANDARD for professional sports in this city, and if the Eagles want to be the best, they need to learn from the best.
